The purpose of this thesis is to describe nursing interventions to reduce cannabis-induced psychosis. The objective is to enhance knowledge of nursing interventions in reducing cannabis-induced psychosis symptoms and avoid relapse.
This study was conducted as a literature review and data analysis was done using an inductive content analysis approach. A total of 13 articles were chosen for this thesis based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Relevant articles were collected from diverse set of scientific databases like CINAHL, ScienceDirect, ProQuest, and Google Scholar.
This thesis explores four key themes related to nursing interventions for cannabis-induced psychosis. The themes identified include therapeutic alliance and patient engagement, medication management and monitoring, psychosocial interventions, and therapeutic approaches, as well as interdisciplinary collaboration and coordinated care.
The results highlight that establishing a strong therapeutic alliance is the key factor in the improvement of patient compliance and treatment outcomes. Psychosocial therapies, especially CBT and MET, show potential in decreasing cannabis consumption and enhancing treatment adherence. These insights show the important role of nurses in delivering holistic, evidence-based care for individuals experiencing cannabis-induced psychosis. The study concludes by stressing the importance of individualized care plans, combining pharmacological and psychosocial interventions. Suggestions are made to continue the research on their integration and the long-term efficacy, also to check the possible influence of the socio-cultural factors on the treatment outcome.
