In today’s world, the Nordics as a region account for the most startups unicorns per capita. The Nordic startup ecosystem leads to high results and the Nordics have generated the highest number of unicorns per capita in the world outside of Sillicon Valley (innovationlabasia.dk). The gaming industry is a significant industry, with nearly 500 gaming companies operating in Nordic countries today. (www.win.gg)
According to a study made by Neogames and Suomen Pelinkehittäjät Ry., the games industry is the most significant cultural export product of Finland. (Neogames & Suomen Pelinkehittäjät Ry. 2010)
Supercell is regarded as one of the succesful companies to bring succeesful games titles to the market. In this thesis, Supercell is used as a case company is due to their outstanding performance in growing from zero net worth in 3 years to 3 billion. (www.wsj.com).
My unique contribution in this thesis, is to define success by two elements and uniquely focus on two factors: Business strategy and people and give a concise literature as to why and how success is achievable by the latter.
The purpose of this thesis is to give insights and clear methods on how Supercell was able to scale up as a company, from a perspective of entering new markets and gaining competitive advantage which would serve to provide a relevant guide on how any startup can implement the elements that drive growth and profitability into their business strategy.
