Optimizing Logistics Operations through the Integration of Project Management Practices in the Logistic Sector of Finland

Abstract

This thesis explores logistics company’s operational efficiency and performance in Finland. Specifically, logistics operations and practices in performance management, specifically time management, risk management, and scope management. The company's logistics challenges, including delays, errors, and stress for the employees caused by low-performance management systems, are explored through research. The overall goal is to explore operational efficiency and performance in the logistics sector as well as lower errors by emphasizing these three practices in performance management. The problem statement identifies that time management, risk, and scope of work impact overall performance and customer satisfaction.

The relevance of this study is that it has the potential to offer insights for small companies, which tend to struggle with performance management more than large companies. The literature review identifies the need for proper time, risk, and scope management in improving logistics operations. The research process involves employee interviews to gain first-hand information on how these management practices are being implemented currently and where they can be improved. The analysis of the responses pinpoints gaps in the company's current systems and how improved management of these practices can improve overall logistics performance.

The research indicates that logistics companies in Finland have problems with time management as a result of ineffective software, confusing schedules, and inadequate staffing at peak periods. And Ineffective Scope management also requires attention, as it can lead to unclear task assignments and miscommunications. The research recommends spending on more effective technology, enhancing training, and establishing clearer procedures for time, risks, and scope management. These transformations will result in streamlined operations, lower employee stress levels, and improved customer satisfaction.
