The study explores the potential of sensor-based technology to support hygiene monitoring. This work aims at the challenges like delayed detection and accidents in hygiene monitoring, which could affect the quality of life, health and well-being. This study is aimed to demonstrate a proof-of-concept system that could detect specific air quality changes related to hygiene monitoring.
This study was conducted using a development board with a gas sensor capable of detecting volatile compounds in the air. Instead of using real world material, the testing and teaching for this project was done in simulated condition with different gases for ethical and practical reasons. The data for this project was collected and formatted using official tools provided for the sensor and processed using artificial intelligence software.
The result showed that the sensor was able to distinguish the quality of air changes under simulated condition, while further testing with real life data would be necessary for a full validation. This study proved the concept and the potential for further exploration and significant reduce in response time for the caregiver and promote a better quality of life in different facilities.
