"Aika ei riittäisi kaikkeen": sosionomiopiskelijoiden suhtautuminen vanhustyöhön

Abstract

Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena oli saada tietoa OAMK:n sosionomiopiskelijoiden suhtautumisesta vanhustyöhön ja sen opintoihin, ja näin ollen ehkä selvittää sitä, miksi vanhustyön kursseille ei ole osallistujia. Vastausten kautta voisi ehkä pystyä suunnittelemaan vanhustyön opintojaksoa houkuttelevammaksi, koska vanhustyön alalla tulee olemaan työpaikkoja. Tutkimus tehtiin eläytymismenetelmällä. Vastaajina toimi eräs OAMK:n sosionomiopiskelijaryhmä. Vastaajia oli 38 ja vastauksia tuli variaatioon A 23 kappaletta ja variaatioon B 34 kappaletta. Tietoperustana toimi sosiaalialan vanhustyö ja siihen liittyvä lainsäädäntö. Koska vastaukset on saatu eläytymismenetelmällä, on vastauksia analysoidessa tärkeää pitää mielessä se, että kyseessä ei ole tositilanne, vaan vastaukset perustuvat siihen, miten vastaajat luulevat asioiden olevan. Opintojaksoa pidetään tärkeänä, mutta monet suuntautuvat mielummin lapsiin ja nuoriin. Opintojaksoa kohtaan on myös kiinnostusta, mutta osallistuminen ei ole ajallisesti mahdollista, koska päällekkäin menee muita kursseja tai opintopisteissä ei ole tilaa uudelle valinnaiselle kursille. Vanhustyön hoidollisuus mainittiin myös, ja tähän voisi olla ratkaisuna sosionomin paikan tarkempi määritteleminen vanhustyön kentällä.

The aim of the thesis was to obtain information on the attitude of Bachelor of Social Sciences students at Oulu University of Applied Sciences towards eldercare and its studies, and so to find out why there are no participants in courses on eldercare. The information base used in the thesis was the field of social work in eldercare and related legislation. Research was done using the method of empathy-based stories. A group of OAMK’s Bachelor of Social Sciences students answered the two frame stories. 23 responses were received for variation A and 34 for variation B. All in all, 38 students responded. In analysing the answers, it is important to remember that since answers were gathered using the method of empathy-based stories, the answers do not ne-cessarily agree with the real views of the respondents, but show instead what they think the answer in that situation would be. According to the answers, the course is considered important, but many respondents are oriented towards children and youth. Those who are interested in the course may not necessarily choose it, because it is not possibe due to time constraints due to overlapping courses and limited amount of courses one can take. Since Bachelor of Social Sciences is not nursing and students studying in this field do not want to work as a nurse, the focus on caring about physical health and wellbeing was mentioned negatively. The answer for this could be more precise defining the duties of Bachelor of Social Sciences in the field of eldercare.
