Tiivistelmä
In recent years, artificial intelligence has significantly reshaped the landscape of video game development,
especially in the realm of single-player experiences. A study was conducted to examine how monetization
strategies can be adapted for AI-driven, ever-changing single-player games. The objective was to explore
sustainable business models that align with the dynamic nature of AI-enhanced gameplay and evolving
player expectations.
The research was implemented through qualitative methods, primarily by conducting two expert interviews
with individuals representing different sectors of the game industry one a veteran designer with experience
in AAA and indie development, and the other a co-founder of a successful indie game studio. Thematic
analysis was used to synthesize the findings.
The results indicated a growing demand for monetization models that support continuous content delivery,
with subscription-based and hybrid models emerging as viable options. Interviewees emphasized the im
portance of player trust, ethical data use, and transparency, particularly as AI systems become more em
bedded in gameplay personalization. Challenges such as AI scalability, maintenance costs, and the risk of
exploitative microtransactions were highlighted.
It was concluded that sustainable monetization in AI-driven single-player games requires innovation not
only in design but also in business practices. Developers were encouraged to adopt flexible, player-centric
models that reflect the unique, evolving nature of AI-powered gameplay while maintaining ethical stand
ards and transparency.
