Kyberturvallisuus osaksi eri alojen tutkintoja – osaamiskuvauksista ja pilotoiduista opetusmateriaaleista tukea opetussuunnitelmatyöhön

Abstract

The project “Developing Cybersecurity Education and Related Collaboration in Universities of Applied Sciences” involved 14 universities of applied sciences. Project started in the Spring of 2023 and concluded at the end of 2025. The project produced standardized and comparable competence descriptions for different fields, based on international cybersecurity frameworks and researched industry needs. Using these competence descriptions as a foundation, the participating universities collaboratively developed training content and teaching methods. The piloted learning materials are available for use across the universities of applied sciences through the open learning material library (aoe.fi). According to student feedback collected from the pilot study modules, practical laboratories, simulations, and project work increased student motivation and improved learning outcomes. Based on these results, it is recommended that cybersecurity be broadly integrated into the teaching of various degrees.

Throughout the project, each participating university organized internal sessions where project personnel familiarized their institution’s staff with the developed competence descriptions and learning materials. It is now the responsibility of the universities to determine how to incorporate the project’s ready-made learning materials into their curriculum design. This offers degree programmes a national opportunity to ensure that cybersecurity competencies align with labour market needs and to respond quickly to the challenges of a rapidly changing operational environment, thereby supporting the digital security of society as a whole.
