Tiivistelmä
Tämä kirjallinen opinnäytetyö käsittelee taiteellista työskentelyä valokuvakollaasien parissa. Työssä tarkastellaan kollaasin traditiota valokuvataiteessa ja tekijän omaa kollaasiin pohjautuvaa taiteellista työskentelyä.
Lähtökohtana on ajatus kollaasista menetelmänä, joka pystyy jäljittelemään näköhavainnon muodostumista yksittäistä valokuvaa monipuolisemmin. Kollaasi rakentuu kerroksittain yhdistäen paikkoja, aikatasoja ja subjektiivisia valintoja samaan tapaan kuin näköhavainto muodostuu aistien, muistin ja ennakoinnin vuorovaikutuksessa. Tähän yhteyteen syvennytään tarkastelemalla näköhavaintoa aivotutkimuksen näkökulmasta.
Työssä analysoidaan tekijän oman kollaasimenetelmän muotoutumista ja siihen liittyviä vaikutteita, sekä kuvataan kollaasien teknistä toteutusta yksityiskohtaisesti. Esimerkkejä esitetään teoksista ja näyttelyistä, joissa tekijä on hyödyntänyt kollaasitekniikaansa. Työskentelyä peilataan myös laajempaan taiteen kenttään ja tunnettujen valokuvakollaaseja käyttävien taiteilijoiden töihin. This written thesis examines artistic work with photographic collage. It explores both the tradition of collage in photographic art and the author’s own collage-based artistic practice.
At its core is the idea of collage as a method that can imitate the formation of visual perception in a more multifaceted way than a single photograph. Built up in layers, collage brings together places, temporalities, and subjective choices in a manner that parallels the
way visual perception emerges through the interaction of the senses, memory, and anticipation. This connection is explored further through an examination of visual perception from the perspective of neuroscience.
The thesis analyzes the development of the author’s collage method and the influences that have shaped it, while also describing the technical execution of the collages in detail. It draws on examples from works and exhibitions in which the author has employed this technique, and situates the practice within the broader field of art, including through comparisons with well-known artists working with photographic collage.
