Optimizing firewall policies for enhanced security and performance : the case of Cisco ASA in enterprise networks

Abstract

Cyber threats are nowadays so sophisticated that comprehensive and user-efficient cybersecurity techniques in enterprise networks are vital. In such context, firewalls play an increasingly pivotal role in any enterprise. This thesis aimed to examine Cisco ASA firewalls, more precisely through policy configuration and optimization; investigate and gather industry best practices with regards to firewall performance; and develop actionable recommendations to improve the use of firewall in enterprises. The data was collected from academic and industry publications. The findings demonstrate how firewall management is crucial to secure enterprise networks. To achieve a strong security posture, enterprises can adopt proactive strategies, use advanced technologies, and maintain regulatory compliance standards. By applying these proactive strategies, businesses can further strengthen their cybersecurity infrastructure and maximize operational efficiency, while navigating the complexity of modern cybersecurity challenges.
